With 20 years of experience in visual effects starting on his first film, Norman Jewison’s Moonstruck and David Cronenbergs Dead Ringers Jon continues to enjoy a fun ride. After graduating from The Ontario College of Art in 1987 specializing in sculpture (A Canada Art Association Award) he went to work at Film Effects as an optical and animation cameraman , the NFB in Montreal and Vancouver and ended up helping build the visual effects facility GVFX. While at GVFX, Jon helped build the company into the largest VFX facility in Canada at the time with offices in Toronto, Vancouver and Santa Monica. In those years Jon was involved in projects such as Gullieromo Del Toro’s film Mimic, The Hunch Back of Notre Dame, Due South, of which Jon won a Gemini award for; Total Recall 2070 of which Jon was nominated for a Prime Time Emmy Nomination and was also nominated for 3 Gemini’s for his work on the series.
After venturing off as an independent Supervisor for a number of years an opportunity arose to team up with Pete Denomme, Gudrun Heinze and David Alexander to start a small artist boutique. With all the collective experience they have it only made sense to start something new and fresh.
He continues to explore creative work on the side directing a short film called Norma with his wife that screened at The Montreal World Film Festival, Palm Springs Short Film Festival, and the Berlin Film Festival. His also directed a music video for the Canadian band Lowest of the Low in 2002.
Jon lives with his wife Sandy, son Noel, daughter Nina and cat Sami in an old Victorian home along with the squirrels, raccoons and mice that populate their attic.
Jon secretly hopes that before he passes on he will be given the opportunity to go on stage with his guitar (with any band that will have him preferably the Stranglers) performing his 3 known chords and rocking like he did when he was a kid.
Jon is a member of Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television and the Visual Effects Society. |
